More non-metallic tools.

In the spirit of my previous entry, here are a few examples of a spike-like carbon fiber tool. I somewhat laughingly refer to this type of tool as the Syphon.
The inside of the tip is beveled, so despite being just carbon fiber, these are sharp enough that they will cut a clean circle out of a paperbag when jabbed through it. Very low-profile, they could be carried in much the same way you'd carry a pen, being that they are roughly the same thickness and length. This is truly a last-ditch defensive tool.

It may look like the tip on, especially the top one, is somewhat blunted. In reality, it's beveled on both sides and is quite sharp.

This shot somewhat shows the beveling. It is difficult to get a decent shot of these.

And in the hand for scale.

  1. I've heard of these before but had never seen one, so thank you for posting pictures. I don't know if they would really be all that useful, but as a last effort tool I would agree with you. I suppose I should stash some of these in my maxpedition kodiak gearslinger for when I take trips. Thanks again!.

  2. Jun,
I can't directly advocate carrying something like this, especially given the questionable legality in certain jurisdictions. However, if you were to hypothetically carry such an item, I would, hypothetically, suggest being quite careful. Such things would be difficult to explain. Which is one reason I like carrying a pair of G10 chopsticks... Hypothetically.
As for usefulness. Take a BIC pen. Stab it into a thick steak or roast. See what kind of hole you make. Imagine doing the same with a much sharper and pointier hollow object and the roast replaced with... Say... Someone's neck. Catch my drift?
