I don't normally do this kind of thing here, but this is something that I think is important. A friend of mine, Anja, who lives in Sweden, has been struggling with the effects of horrible abuse almost her entire life. Recently, Anja, in a move that showed just how courageous she is, stood up in front of the world and talked about what had happened to her. The sheer enormity of will and courage that this would take is just astonishing. The really sad part of this is that not only did this happen to Anja, but it happens to thousands of other kids, both male and female, every year and disturbingly little ever comes of it. The system in Sweden has completely failed Anja and she has had to make her own moves towards healing, moves which many survivors never get the courage to make. Watch this video, and know that there are monsters out there that you would never suspect.
Thank you for giving this incredible young woman a forum. She needed to say it. I suppose the mention of incest is enough to hasten the steps of those who passed by her. It was hard to guess if any looked at her or if they averted their eyes in shame. I've got to believe w/her fortitude and self reliance that she will grow to have a truly meaningful life. My prayers are w/her.
