New Xerxes variant

A little while back I received a commission from a friend, to make a gift for his brother, an officer with the Albuquerque Police Department. After my friend had seen the Xerxes that I was carrying at the time, he decided that something like that would be a perfect gift for his brother, as he has apparently been wanting a knife to carry as a backup. Sort of a "getoffamecrackhead" tool.

I came up with this variant based on the requirements for easy concealment and portability. The actual carry method has yet to be determined as I am leaving that up to the Officer in question.

I used a more aggressive bevel than I normally do, resulting in this particular variant likely being the most vicious cutter that I've made so far.

My pardons, some of the pictures are a little blurry.

This is the carbidized side of the blade. Note the curvature of the handle line. Makes for a compact overall package and lines the point up extremely well for RGEI work.

I'm exceedingly happy with the balance point on this as well. Exactly where it should be.

As you can see, quite the compact little package. All without compromising grip integrity.

Size comparison to Benchmade 710. Note that the blade is pretty much the same length as the 710, while the overall size is significantly smaller.

And lastly, the sheath. The sheath is setup to work with a Tek-Lok, or almost any other kind of attachment you might desire. As is shown, it is rigged for IWB-carry with a static cord deployment.

  1. I dig it. To be honest, I have been favoring forward grip edge in or, in this type of design, a more conventional (but gorilla grip) forward hold for the short stuff, because it allows some sneakier options in my own "system." Again, just from my personal biases, though I dig RGEI. I love this design. Would you divulge what your going rate is for a design like this? Not that I have any money at the moment, but....

  2. Thanks, SG, the comments are much appreciated! My going rate for this type of knife is about 285 dollars. That includes sheath with mounting options largely of your choice and shipping inside the US. If it needs to be shipped outside the US, short of an APO/FPO address, shipping will be extra.
I'm quite fond of this type of design and it works well in a variety of grips. The forward gorilla grip is a fantastic way to use a knife like this.
