New design added to the stable: The Maleficus

For a long time now, I've been mulling over what I would want in a knife that fits inside the ShivWorks Clinch Pick size and application envelope. IE, 5.5 inches overall length, configured for forward grip, edge up.
I had no desire to simply copy the Clinch Pick design as manifested by Trace Rinaldi, so I eventually came up with my own spin on the package.

And thus, I bring you the Maleficus. The name is Latin for "Vicious", and it fits nicely into the Clinch Pick paradigm. 5.5 inches overall, blade length pushing 3 inches, just a smidgen longer than the Clinch Pick.
The handle is extremely compact, yet locks into the hand well. It also, as a side benefit, allows for the expedient use of the Maleficus as a single-edge push dagger. While this is not ideal, it does line the point up beautifully for rapid-fire shovel hooks to the trunk.
Weight of the knife is right at 52 grams, and the sheath and carry system is my usual shock cord attachment system for OWB use.

Handle texturing wraps completely around the handle, which makes for a very secure grip.

The spine is aggressively crowned and polished to a high finish. The curvature and smooth surface is designed to prevent it from hanging up on anything on either insertion or withdrawal.

The sheath is, as mentioned above, my usual approach to ease of carry, using my shock cord system. A pad of foamed rubber is found on the back to provide friction.

The primary grip is meant to be forward grip, edge up, like shown above.

However, the Maleficus works quite nicely in reverse grip, edge in.

And also in this, push knife style, grip.
Pardon the low quality of this picture. It does however still serve to illustrate how the Maleficus attaches to the belt. Or a pack strap. Or to MOLLE/PALS gear.

And here, you can see that it readily conceals under a simple t-shirt..

And here the Maleficus is shown with a trainer. Trainers come with their own sheath and are made from 0.25 inch thick red G10 composite. All the edges are - of course -  rounded off and smoothed.

Overall, I'm quite happy with how this one turned out and it will be a part of my regular line-up henceforth.

  4. It would add 25 to the price... Other than that, I'm all for it.
